Non-Native Mailbox Species

Contrary to what some believe, flamingo mailboxes are not indigenous to this region. Studies have shown that "Snow Birds" - those who flee the snowbelt regions during the winter months, in search of warmer climates - return with these souvenirs, thinking they'd make great adornments for their homes. When, in fact, flamingo mailboxes are considered an invasive species, crowding out the more plain - but native - black or white postal holders.
